They managed to make me in a few seconds completely stop caring what happened to the characters. Kept on watching til the end, and still had me thinking of a good ending. Overall, I rate it 4 and this film cannot be tasty for anyone. Here Alone › Customer reviews; Customer reviews. Here Alone review: A perfect three character story that delves deep into the human psyche, the power of relationships and the human drive to survive. When Chris and Olivia are ready to go, Ann suggests that they should scavenge food in a nearby farm. I thought it would be repetitive, however, it kept me curious as to what would happen next. The acting is so-so since no one really has to stretch. So if you want to waster part of your life (as I'm sure many of us have done) watch this. I would definitely watch it again, or rent similar-themed movies such as this. This movie was made by inexperienced actors and filmmakers under the impression that what they were making was actually going to be intelligent, and it makes the film both extremely stupid and completely miserable. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. Doe has a couple of femora characters, thus female viewers alike might appreciate the work in this film. Low key and well-done script with capable actors. This genre bender is tough to categorize. The zombie rules make absolutely no sense and are very inconsistent, with the zombies acting on different impulses depending on the scene. A young woman struggles to survive on her own in the wake of a mysterious epidemic that has killed much of society, and forced her deep into the unforgiving wilderness. 8.2. this was decent. It's different from all the other crap zombie movies and approaches this theme in a very unique way. There's a problem loading this menu right now. Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2017. The lead actress was really good. Watched it, and wondered for the first few minutes... aroused my curiosity, and kept watching. The characters are very simplistic and their arcs and interactions are all predictable. But flashbacks soon show her an unknown amount of time earlier, fleeing her home with husband Jason (Shane West) and their infant daughter as gunshots fire in the distance and the radio reports a deadly, widespread viral infection. I will just say that the entire film was gripping and brilliant. Here Alone review, Kat Hughes, Frightfest 2016. This is a merit for the film but the movie story was not fascinating, a lot of crap dialogues which made it slightly boring. 3.4 out of 5. The movie also demonstrates how primal and basic humans can become when there is no hope or anything else to do, and no rules of society apply anymore. Now I hope they make a part 2. This is no "Hollywood", glitzy movie like Independence Day or The Day After Tomorrow, with big name or grand themes, but how someone would really try to live in a post collapse world. I am a sucker for post-apocalyptic movies. Soon Chris and Ann have one night stand and Olivia is jealous with the situation. What I've noticed is that filmmakers seem to like these movies because they allow minimal casts - two to four characters and maybe a handful of zombies - and a minimalist setting, e.g., woods, desert, a basement, etc. Every time anyone did anything in the last 15 minutes I was left dumbfounded. A surprisingly sober entry in the Tribeca film fest’s midnight section, and even more surprising winner of its narrative feature audience award, this stripped-down survivalist drama about a woman carrying on after a virus has killed and/or zombified most of humanity is probably too low on conventional action to satisfy mainstream horror fans. The simple thongs we take for granted, such as los of water, food shelter, utilities, safety; what would you' do, what could you do to survive, are you and your loved ones prepared? However Olivia has an unforgiving secret about the death of her baby and she decides to stay. Had the ending not contained crap about some hormonal teenager, and some misplaced sense of saving the life of someone who wanted you dead and letting the one who loved you die, I'd have given it a solid 4 out of 5 or 8 out of 10. I wish very much I had not wasted my time with it now because it went up its own behind trying to be meaningful and just succeeded in being completely ridiculous. It's still watchable but like the more discerning reviewers have expressed, the ending does suck. True, not a lot of zombie action, but I don't think that was the point of the movie. The few infected who show up have makeup that wouldn't make it on FACE OFF. Not edge of your seat the whole time, but it kept my interest until the end. The newcomers don’t seem entirely trustworthy, casting a possibly covetous eye toward their benefactress’ survival-odds-heightening possessions. But there are no prizes for guessing she’s now the family’s sole survivor. Others have covered the film well in general, so I won't bother covering that portion. why 5 stars? Movies like Re-Animator, Zombieland, and Return of the Living Dead all work despite being silly because they embrace their silliness through a comedic tone. Here Alone is on the whole a good movie - actors are playing well, settings etc. This movie comes very close to Walking Dead, it just needs more action, about 50% more action in my opinion, then it would be a home run! Humility is almost a forgotten virtue. Overall, this is a very good movie, excellent for Friday nights or the Weekend. Films about people, how they survive, move forward, or at least try to do that are, for me, ultimately more interesting and more moving. The narrative of a horror film does not have to have Bullitt's Mustang at full throttle every second or blood and gore fogging up the movie or TV screen. This movie is one of the greatest zombie movies ever made, the movie doesn't contain much violent scenes or blood, because this is not the main goal here, the main goal is about the human souls and how they may survive such world. Having grown up in these woods, where Jason trained her in wilderness survival basics, the family apparently had enough warning about the crisis to prepare as well as could be managed, with camping supplies, some long-shelf-life food and a gun packed into the car that now sits idle next to her tent. No trouble either with off the formula stories. * Don't be fooled by all the 10 star reviews. Bravo ! Very, very well done. Having determined neither are infected, Ann takes them in, letting Chris recoup. I watched the whole thing, which doesn't happen a lot these days if something doesn't keep my interest. One day, the lonely Ann helps the teenager Olivia (Gina Piersanti) and her stepfather Chris (Adam David Thompson) that is seriously wounded to survive. The main actress was interesting to look at, and I think that fact pretty much saved this movie. Though we don’t actually see a zombie until more than an hour in, we do hear them screeching in the distance — and know they’re agitated by the smell of blood, which Ann uses to waylay them while she’s busy raiding a no longer inhabited farmhouse for supplies. There is no empathy with the characters their acts diverge from "real behavior" in an zombie apocalypse. *MIGHT CONTAIN SLIGHTLY SPOILERY STUFF! just great! maybe my expectations are low. With Lucy Walters, Gina Piersanti, Adam David Thompson, Shane West. Adventurous. I have no problem with dumb movies, especially dumb zombie movies. But these movies have to be aware of their flaws and limitations, and embrace them. The performances by all involved were some of the best I've seen in this type of film: completely organic and believable. Fantastic movie. Definitely a horror film, fills in for missing the walking dead. Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2017. Here Alone (2017) Review Gripping indie zombie thriller is a slow satisfying burn. are reduced to the absolute necessary (small budget) but are sufficient for telling the story. I have no trouble with low budget films. This movie is the perfect example of how a post-apocalyptic scenario would look like if it were to happen today. what was the purpose ? Whatever it was it wasn't bad enough to suit me. Holing up in the woods of upstate NY was the idea of her survivalist husband in an effort to save them and their infant child (ominous tone). To me, the acting was superb from all on this film, interesting story, I was not regretful seeing it; I wish I have bought it, so I can see it again in a year, or play it for friends. She goes with Olivia to bring food from the kitchen while Chris creates a diversion to the zombies outside. it worked well for me with the slow process, the main protagonist is very charismatic. This movie has the most beautiful cinematography, filmed mostly in the outdoors, wooded, forestry areas. Directed by Rod Blackhurst. Great character development. Here Alone. Here Alone is far from poor: it is competently made and deservedly worth note for having a strong female character spearhead an otherwise male-dominated subgenre (Alice aside). Even drama doesn't really fit. Sorry to say but I don't think this one managed to bring anything new to the table. Some the most creative work is done with low budgets, and breaking formula is often good. This movie might not be everyone, but it is one of the most realistic portrayals of the collapse of society that I've seen in any movie.
